Dominant against Brest, the Rouge et Blanc ultimately prevailed for the fourth time in a row in the Principality and the fifth in Ligue 1 (2–0), drawing even closer to the European spots.
A fourth consecutive victory in the Principality! Professional from start to finish against Stade Brestois, the AS Monaco players claimed a win on Matchday 26 of Ligue 1 McDonald’s. It was an important result in the race for European spots, secured at the Stade Louis-II in the presence of President Dmitry Rybolovlev. Recap. ✍️

One week after the resplendent victory at the Parc des Princes against the Parisian leaders (1-3), AS Monaco faced Stade Brestois. It was a clash between the two most in-form teams in the league, as the club from the Principality (16 points) and Brest (14 points) boasted the two best records in Ligue 1 since the start of Matchday 20. Moreover, there was a momentum that the players of Sébastien Pocognoli wished to maintain in order to continue their impressive streak in the top flight (seven matches unbeaten).
I think that, along with us, Brest is currently the team in Ligue 1 enjoying the best run of form. That creates a rather special atmosphere for this match. Collectively, this Brest team is very strong, and individually they possess good players, led by an experienced coach who is not easy to outmaneuver.
To try and continue this positive run in the league (5 wins, 2 draws), coach Sébastien Pocognoli could count on the return of Lukáš Hrádecký between the posts for Monaco and opted to play the same three-man defense as he had against Paris Saint-Germain last weekend (1-3). Up front, Aleksandr Golovin and Maghnes Akliouche supported Folarin Balogun, while out wide, Jordan Teze and Simon Adingra were also included.
This clash between the two most in-form teams in Ligue 1 McDonald’s kicks off with high intensity in the duels. Brest were the first to threaten, through Ludovic Ajorque (12′).
But the Rouge et Blanc reacted and following a good run by Maghnes Akliouche, Folarin Balogun opened the scoring with a powerful left-footed strike (1–0, 19′), thus finding the back of the net for the fourth consecutive time in Ligue 1! The waves of Monaco attacks come one after another, but the French international (26′)… et Lamine Camara (29′) failed to double their lead. A few moments later, Aleksandr Golovin was denied by Coudert on a well-taken free kick (35′).
The second half started strongly, and Monaco’s number 10 came close to scoring with a superb curling shot, but Coudert made a flying save to keep his team in the game (51′). The match settled into a slower pace until the Monaco striker almost doubled his tally with a subtle chip (68′). Sébastien Pocognoli’s men looked to counter-attack, and from a good cross by Mika Biereth, Madou’ just missed finding the net, but the Russian international was there to follow up and doubled the lead with a crisp strike (2–0, 79′)!
The Rouge et Blanc playmaker thus made his mark on his 200th Ligue 1 appearance. It was a goal that sealed the outcome of the match and allowed AS Monaco to secure a fifth consecutive victory, extending their unbeaten streak in the league to eight games. This result also sees the Monegasques climb provisionally to fifth place—three points shy of the top four—ahead of this weekend’s fixtures. DAGHE MUNEGU!!! 🇲🇨
