Aston Villa midfield talent Tommi O’Reilly has been in talks with Notts County to join the League One club on loan this summer, according to journalist Jacob Tanswell.

The Birmingham-born midfielder began his football journey within Aston Villa’s youth system, joining the club at the age of seven, but has only one first-team appearance to his name so far.

The 22-year-old has been sent out on several loan spells during his career, to teams such as Real Union, Shrewsbury Town, MK Dons and Crewe Alexandra.

Once again, O’Reilly is set to leave Villa Park, this time to join Notts County, and he is currently in talks with the League One club over a potential loan move.

O’Reilly was linked with a move to Sheffield Wednesday, but the potential move broke down during discussions with the Owls.

Besides that, back in April, O’Reilly was ‘expected to have talks’ with Oxford and Portsmouth, but now it seems he is going to join Notts County.

O’Reilly will now be looking to get the move over the line in time for him to settle in at Notts County ahead of the new League One season.

Aston Villa are busy adding to the first team under Unai Emery and have brought in Alejandro Garnacho on a season-long loan from fellow Premier League side Chelsea.

The Villans have done decent business with Chelsea this summer, having sold Morgan Rogers for big money, but now they are keen on Blues forward Nicolas Jackson.

The club have invested in bringing in quality players through the door in the shape of Johan Manzambi from Freiburg, and Joao Gomes from Wolves.

Manager Emery will want to bring in further reinforcements during the course of the summer transfer window, given the pressure of playing in the Champions League next season.

O’Reilly’s loan move to Notts County will allow him to gain valuable first-team experience as he seeks to keep his dream of an eventual breakthrough into Villa’s first team alive.

Notts County will kick off their season by travelling to Burnley in the EFL Cup.
