Chidozie Awaziem produced one of the most dramatic performances of the Ligue 1 season on Sunday moving from heartbreak to redemption as Nantes battled to 1-1 draw against Lorient.
The Nigerian centre back one of Nantes most reliable performers this term endured nightmare moment in first half stoppage time (45+1) when he inadvertently turned the ball into his own net while trying to cut out dangerous pass.
The misfortune handed Lorient the lead and briefly stunned the home crowd.
Yet the Super Eagles defender refused to crumble.
Awaziem showed immense mental strength and leadership after the break anchoring Nantes defensive line and stepping up when his team needed him most.
Deep into second half stoppage time (90+1), the 28 year old rose highest inside the box and powered home sensational header into the far corner.
His equaliser denied Lorient what would have been their first away victory of the 2025 /26 season and earned Nantes crucial point in their climb up the Ligue 1 table.
