Aziz Yıldırım has reclaimed the Fenerbahçe presidency after a decisive win at the club’s extraordinary general assembly, sealing a dramatic return to power.
The 73-year-old businessman and civil engineer beat challenger Hakan Safi by 17,245 votes to 9,927. According to Turkish-Football.com, the congress turnout was exceptionally high as members pushed for change.
Yıldırım previously led the Istanbul club from 1998 to 2018. “Fenerbahçe needs unity and solidarity right now,” he said. “We will not allow internal divisions to damage the progress of this great institution.”
He set out plans for rapid transfer business, pledging major reinforcements within the next 15 days. The new administration is targeting the Süper Lig title in the club’s 120th anniversary season. Financial auditing and restructuring, plus stadium expansion and upgraded fan facilities, are on the agenda.
Under club bylaws, this extraordinary mandate lasts one year before the regular cycle returns. With time short, Yıldırım is expected to meet his board quickly to settle the sporting director role, handle contract renewals and stabilise operations before the summer schedule begins.
