Bahia were held 1-1 by Grêmio at Arena Fonte Nova in the 16th round of the Brasileirão. The result stretched the hosts’ winless run to seven matches, with Sanabria coming off the bench to equalise.
The hosts played under pressure and, despite being heavy favourites against a weakened Grêmio, failed to make home advantage count, according to Globo.com.
Bahia fell behind, missed clear chances, then Iago supplied the assist for Sanabria to level in the second half. Goalkeeper Léo Vieira had little to do and was not at fault for the Grêmio goal.
Rodrigo Nestor created a big opening and was involved in the equaliser, while Willian José contributed with important final passes. Everton Ribeiro endured a poor afternoon, spurning a one-on-one, and Ademir struggled to influence the attack. Centre-backs David Duarte and Kanu were steady, and Erick Pulga was Bahia’s most active forward.
Rogério Ceni earned credit for his second-half changes. Bahia now have a free week before visiting Coritiba at Couto Pereira on Monday 25 May at 20:00 Brasília time.
