Barcelona have had a very busy last 48 hours in the transfer market. Joao Cancelo and Rodri are set to join from Al Hilal and Manchester City respectively, while another player is poised to join Ferran Torres in leaving the club, following his €50m move to Paris Saint-Germain, which was completed on Saturday.
Barcelona have done well to move on a number of players this summer. Torres’ exit was needed due to the costs it would have taken to renew his contract, while it was equally important to get the likes of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Ronald Araujo (both loans) and Ansu Fati off the wage bill, as this makes it easier for the new signings to be registered with La Liga.
Aside from the Torres and Fati deals, Barcelona have struggled to get good money from their player sales, but they are about to bring in a nice chunk courtesy of Tommy Marques. The La Masia midfielder, who was one of several stars to have recently been exiled from training, is about to join Portuguese side Braga in a €10m deal, as per The Athletic (via MD).
A few weeks ago, Marques made the decision to leave Barcelona in search of more playing time. He attracted interest from the likes of Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund, but Braga were the ones to push hardest for his signature, and they have now reached an agreement with the Catalan club.
Crucially, Barcelona have not managed to include a sell-on clause and/or buy-back option in their agreement with Braga, although they have secured a right of first refusal, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. It means that the club must be informed whether a future bid is accepted, at which point they will have the opportunity to match that offer.
On the whole, it is a very good deal for a player that has only made a handful of first team appearances. It has not been an easy transfer window for Barcelona, although sporting director Deco has worked his magic in the last few days.
