The knee injury to Gavi towards the end of last month caused a lot of concern at FC Barcelona.

After all, the fan-favourite midfielder had suffered a new injury to the same knee that he had been operated on back in 2023 due to an ACL rupture.

There were talks of a potential surgery for Gavi, but Barça and the player opted to stick with conservative treatment to see if the condition gets better before deciding on the next move.

Gavi improving

Now, there is good news in store for the fans, as Javi Miguel of AS reports that the internal meniscus problem in Gavi’s right knee has improved significantly, and as of today, the surgical option is no longer under consideration.

The recovery initially raised serious concerns, with little progress and very negative sensations. However, over the past week, there has been a radical change.

Gavi is now experiencing hardly any discomfort, which means he could soon begin working on the pitch, aiming to rejoin the first team’s training dynamic as quickly as possible.

Nevertheless, the coaching staff and the medical department remain cautious. Staff are aware that this type of injury must be evaluated on a day-to-day basis, and no one is taking anything for granted.

Still, since his injury three weeks ago, this is the first time a clearly positive progression has been observed in his treatment.

No date for a return has been set for Gavi, and there is no intention to place pressure on the player.

Even so, if the current trajectory continues without setbacks, the Spanish international could return to action within two weeks, potentially coinciding with the UEFA Champions League match against PSG on 1 October.

The coming days will be decisive in finalising his recovery plan. If progress continues and positive sensations remain, he could start group training in just over a week.

Should there be any regression, the possibility of surgery would reopen. For now, however, the club does not consider this scenario likely.
