Ferran Torres’ future has become one of the talking points of Barcelona’s summer, with PSG having stepped up their pursuit of the Spaniard in recent days amid suggestions his untouchable status at the club had begun to fade.

The noise has only intensified given the forward’s contractual situation, with Fabrizio Romano recently reporting that Ferran was not considering signing a new deal at the Camp Nou. However, the picture from within the club appears rather different.

No offer from PSG

According to Diario SPORT, Barcelona have not received any formal offer from PSG for Ferran, nor are there any ongoing negotiations regarding a transfer, despite reports suggesting a move was edging closer.

There is said to be a degree of unease within the club at how the situation has been portrayed, with particular surprise at suggestions the deal was nearing completion.

Barcelona suspect there has been activity between PSG and the player’s camp, and they understand Luis Enrique knows Ferran intimately but they insist there is a significant gap between interest and a concrete approach.

As things stand, no proposal has landed at the Barcelona offices.

Renewal is the plan

Barcelona maintain their intention to extend Ferran’s contract, which expires at the end of next season, with the aim of preventing him from entering the final year of his deal without clarity.

The report suggest the plan is to open negotiations once the World Cup concludes and the player can turn his full attention to his contractual situation.

As reported earlier, Barcelona are not contemplating a sale at all, with a renewal offer expected to be tabled in September for financial fair play reasons.

One factor that had been cited as a complication is the €7-8 million payment owed to Manchester City should Ferran sign a new deal. However, the club do not view that figure as an obstacle, believing it can be amortised without difficulty.

Why Barcelona value Ferran

Ferran has earned his standing through consistency and an ability to deliver whenever called upon, with his versatility across the front line and his growing goal output highly valued by both Deco and Hansi Flick.

He has adapted to various roles without losing his competitive edge, proving a reliable option both as a starter and from the bench.

The report suggests his renewal was already part of the plan before the PSG rumours resurfaced, with the intention being to extend his commitment by two seasons until 2029.
