Barcelona star Marc-André ter Stegen refused to join his teammates on their journey to Italy for the 2nd leg of the club’s recent Champions League semi-final showdown with Inter Milan.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who have this weekend provided an insight into the situation.
Goalkeeper Ter Stegen is of course widely expected to be on the move over the weeks ahead, to make room for the incoming Joan García.
This comes after something of a sudden shift on Barca’s part regarding the German’s place at the club.
And as alluded to above, on Saturday, an insight into a leading reason behind as much has been forthcoming online.
As per Sport, Ter Stegen’s agent made contact with the Camp Nou board in the days leading up to last month’s Champions League semi-final tie against Inter Milan.
This came to make clear the 33-year-old’s readiness to return to starting duties at San Siro, following a long-term spell on th sidelines.
And after learning of Hansi Flick’s decision to continue relying on Wojciech Szczęsny, Ter Stegen is said to have responded in less than professional fashion:
‘He did not like the decision at all and did not travel with the team to Milan to form a group despite being the captain and stayed in Barcelona training alone. Other injured players like Koundé did take a plane to be with the rest of their teammates.’
This is labelled as ‘the straw that broke the camel’s back’ for the powers that be in Barcelona when it comes to Ter Stegen’s future with the club.
