Earlier in the summer, everyone had predicted Robert Lewandowski to continue playing an integral role in Hansi Flick’s attacking setup this season.
However, three games into the new season, the Pole looks to have lost a bit of prominence owing to Ferran Torres’ impressive form.
After missing the first game due to injury, Lewandowski returned to action late in the second game as a substitute. He was expected to start against Rayo Vallecano, but Flick once again started with Ferran.
In a recent interview, Lewandowski indicated that the season begins in September, but it is clear that Barcelona are now looking at other avenues for productivity in the final third.
Keeping that in mind, Barcelona are unlikely to renew the contract of Lewandowski, which expires at the end of the season.

This is according to SPORT, which shares that Barcelona’s idea is to part ways with the former Bayern Munich striker next summer.
Although both parties are open to assessing the situation closer to the date of his contract expiry, the expectation is that their relationship will conclude on 30 June, 2026.
This comes on the back of growing worries over Lewandowski’s age. The Pole turned 37 in August, and his age has been a constant topic at Barça, even though the forward has always responded with goals.
At Barcelona, the club are looking to find a new number nine, who can replace Lewandowski and lead the attack in the years to come.
The club are open to opportunities in the market but would ideally like to avoid that option given the economic situation, with the plan being to promote Ferran Torres.
As for Lewandowski, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for a player who has been courted by Saudi clubs all summer.
