FC Barcelona’s striker search this summer seems to be leading to only one destination: Julian Alvarez. However, it looks like Dusan Vlahovic is also being eyed as an alternative.
The Serbian’s future is entering a decisive phase, but Barcelona are not expected to change their transfer strategy because of it.
Juventus have reportedly asked the Serbian striker for a clear answer on his renewal before 30 June. The Italian club want to resolve the situation quickly so they can plan their attack without more uncertainty.
According to SPORT, Juventus have offered Vlahovic a new deal on reduced fixed wages, with incentives that could take his salary close to €8 million per season.
So far, the player’s camp has not given the response Juventus wanted, and that silence has increased frustration in Turin.
Vlahovic has been linked with the club before, but he is not part of the main plan right now.
The priority remains Julian Alvarez. Barca believe the Argentine fits better with Hansi Flick’s idea because of his movement, pressing, versatility, and ability to connect with a young attack led by Lamine Yamal.
That is the key difference. Vlahovic is a more fixed number nine, a powerful finisher with presence in the box. He is a strong striker, but not necessarily the profile Barcelona are trying to build around.
The salary question also matters. Even if Juventus decide to move on, Vlahovic’s wages would be difficult to fit into Barca’s current structure, especially when the club are still trying to protect their financial balance.
If the Alvarez operation fails, Barcelona could look at other names, with Eli Junior Kroupi mentioned as an alternative. However, as things stand, Vlahovic would only become relevant if the market changed dramatically.
That feels sensible. Barca have made too many expensive mistakes in the past by chasing opportunity over fit. This time, the club seem determined to keep the sporting plan ahead of the noise.
Vlahovic may soon leave Juventus, with Besiktas reportedly gaining strength as an option. Barcelona, though, are watching from a distance, and that is exactly where they should stay for now.
