João Palhinha’s future is likely to be decided in the coming weeks. The Portuguese international is currently on loan at Tottenham Hotspur and no longer has long-term prospects in Munich.

For months now, a permanent departure for the 31-year-old has been considered likely. Now, there are strong indications that Bayern have adjusted their demands to facilitate a quick transfer.

Bayern apparently lowers transfer fee demand

As reported by the Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã, the German record champions are now showing themselves to be significantly more willing to compromise.

While there was recently talk of a transfer fee in the range of 30 million euros, Bayern are now reportedly willing to agree to a total package of around 25 million euros.

This would be a significant concession to potential suitors and would greatly increase the chances of a timely sale.

This development is particularly interesting for Tottenham Hotspur. The Premier League club currently holds a purchase option reportedly set at around 30 million euros. While the club is said to be fundamentally convinced of the midfielder’s qualities, the fixed sum was recently considered too high.

Coach Roberto De Zerbi reportedly holds Palhinha in high regard and can envision continuing to work with him.

A reduction in the transfer fee could significantly improve the situation for the Spurs.

Sporting is also waiting in the wings for a return

In addition to Tottenham, Sporting Lisbon is also closely monitoring the situation.

The top Portuguese club has been linked for months with a return of its former star player. Palhinha himself is reportedly open to a return to his home country in principle.

However, Sporting is unlikely to be able to afford a transfer fee in the range of 30 million euros. A reduction to around 25 million euros would at least increase the chances of a deal.

From Bayern Munich’s perspective, it is not solely about the transfer fee.

Another decisive factor is the Portuguese player’s salary. Palhinha remains one of the higher-paid players on the Munich squad. A definitive sale would further ease the salary structure and create new financial flexibility.

Especially in light of the planned transfers of Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari, this aspect suits the officials around Max Eberl.

Revenues are to be reinvested directly

Bayern are currently working flat out on several personnel matters. While Brown and Saibari are on the verge of a move to Munich, further reinforcements are already being discussed internally.

To do so, the record champions need additional revenue.

Palhinha is therefore among the players whose sale is a top priority this summer. The willingness to be flexible on the transfer fee clearly shows that the Munich club prefers a quick solution.

Whether Tottenham or Sporting will ultimately win the race remains to be seen. One thing is clear, however: the signs are increasingly pointing toward a departure.
