The Eagles are chasing a win to move provisionally above Sporting and cut the gap to Porto in the standings, one week before the Clássico against the Dragons.

In their last match, Benfica beat Moreirense 4-0 in Moreira de Cónegos in a postponed Matchday 3 league game. The Reds went into the break ahead thanks to a goal from Vangelis Pavlidis in the 45+4th minute. In the second half, Andreas Schjelderup, Gianluca Prestianni and Fredrik Aursnes added the other goals.

Samuel Soares; Daniel Banjaqui, Tomás Araújo, Clément Lenglet and Samuel Dahl; João Palhinha and Fredrik Aursnes; Rafa, Gianluca Prestianni and Andreas Schjelderup; Vangelis Pavlidis. This is expected to be the starting eleven chosen by Marco Silva.

Ahead of the match against Gil Vicente, Marco Silva previewed the clash in the pre-match press conference: "They are a quality opponent, but one coming off a poor result. They started the season well and make great use of the flanks and one-on-one situations. Playing at home, we will have to stay focused and show the same quality and the same principles as a team. The quality will come if we stick to those principles, but there is also an opponent on the other side who knows us," said the coach.

For this Sunday’s fixture, Jaden Umeh remains sidelined with a right thigh injury, while Alexander Bah is recovering from trauma to his right shoulder. Both players will miss the clash with Luís Pinto’s side.
