Bernardo Silva was given a standing ovation as he left the pitch in his final Manchester City appearance against Aston Villa on Sunday in the Premier League. According to L'Équipe, he departed to a guard of honour formed by team-mates and opponents.
Starting on the 38th and final day, Silva was substituted just before the hour, with Mateo Kovacic coming on as the Etihad Stadium rose to applaud.
The 31-year-old saluted his colleagues, then walked through the guard of honour from both sides. He embraced a tearful Pep Guardiola, his manager for nine seasons, who is also leaving the club after Sunday’s match.
Silva leaves having played 460 matches for City, scoring 76 goals and supplying 77 assists.
Eighteen minutes later, John Stones, who will also depart, received his own guard of honour as he was withdrawn in the 77th minute. The England defender joined City in 2016, at the same time as Guardiola.
