Birmingham City are trying to hijack Young Boys' move for Nantes winger Bahereba Guirassy

Birmingham City's summer business doesn't appear to be done yet, as with just under a week to go until the deadline, Chris Davies is looking to further reinforce his side's attack with the addition of Nantes winger Bahereba Guirassy.

According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri via X, Birmingham are trying to hijack Swiss side Young Boys' move for French youth international and Nantes winger Guirassy.

Guirassy, 19, has amassed nearly half a century of first-team appearances for Les Canaris already despite still being a teenager, as Birmingham are looking to scupper Young Boys' transfer plans for the winger by launching their own bid for the Frenchman.

Birmingham are looking to add another option or two to their final third before the deadline, with a move for Guirassy having been lined up by the Championship outfit.

French publication Ouest-France has further reported that Blues have bid in the region of €4 million (£3.4 million) for the winger, surpassing Young Boys' offer of €3 million (£2.5 million).

Birmingham have previously targeted Joe Gelhardt before his move to Hull City from Leeds United, Sporting Gijon attacking midfielder Cesar Gelabert, and most recently Portsmouth's Adrian Segecic, with Davies not yet convinced with his current options in that area of the pitch.

Whilst those aforementioned players primarily operate through the centre of the pitch, Guirassy is more of a winger, best utilised on the left flank where he can cut in on his preferred right foot.

It looks certain that Guirassy will leave Nantes this summer, though whether his next destination will be Switzerland or England, at this stage, remains to be seen.

Birmingham have not been shy when it comes to splashing the cash in the past couple of years under the ownership regime of Tom Wagner and Tom Brady, affording head coach Davies circa £50 million in additions since the summer of 2024.

The likes of Jay Stansfield, Kyogo Furuhashi, Carlos Vicente, and August Priske have arrived under the watch of Davies for not insignificant fees, but despite this, the former Leicester City assistant head coach is not totally convinced with his current options.

Best off the left, Birmingham have been looking for another option on that flank since the departure of Ibrahim Osman in the summer after his loan deal from Brighton and Hove Albion expired.

Blues have previously expressed their interest in bringing the Ghanaian back to St Andrews this summer, but he appears to be a part of the Seagulls' first-team plans on the South Coast, as Birmingham have now moved on to Guirassy.

Stansfield has been preferred on the left flank instead of Demarai Gray in the opening two Championship games of the season, as Davies has made his intentions of bringing in another option on that wing abundantly clear, as Guirassy would slot in like a glove in Birmingham's attack.

Birmingham have added only Luis Vazquez to their attacking ranks this summer, with the Argentine striker arriving from Belgian side Anderlecht earlier in the window, whilst both Furuhashi and Osman have left, leaving them in a weaker position in that area of the pitch than last season.

German centre-forward Marvin Ducksch could also still leave before the deadline, having been linked with a return to Germany, as Blues will almost certainly need one of two more reinforcements over the coming days.

The Championship club have been linked with a move for Ipswich Town forward Anis Mehmeti in recent days, with Birmingham's FLW fan pundit, Jason Moore, issuing a 'go and get him' plea for the Albanian previously.
