FLW’s Blackburn Rovers fan pundit has reacted to the club’s new matchday ticket pricing.

Blackburn Rovers will be hopeful they can rise up the Championship table after narrowly securing their safety last season.

Finishing 20th under Michael O’Neill, Rovers are now managed by the returning Tony Mowbray, but he will have an almighty task on his hands to get his side away from further relegation danger.

The first port of call will be to address the lack of goals, with Blackburn ranking 23rd in the second tier for goals scored, on 42, finishing only above Sheffield Wednesday.

In order to get in a better vein of form compared to last season, Ewood Park has to be a fortress for Rovers, who will need the backing of their home support to get many more victories on the board and ensure they are looking upwards rather than over their shoulders in the coming weeks and months.

But added support in the stands has been hard to come by given the frustration caused by the Venky’s ownership, while a recent announcement on ticket prices has done no favours to welcoming back big crowds.

Blackburn recently announced their new matchday ticket pricing, with ‘regrettable’ increases occurring due to EFL policies.

The club have told supporters that Category A+ game tickets for adults will range from £35.50 to £45, while Category A games are valued between £32-£40.

Meanwhile, away fans for those games are expected to pay between £35 and £45 for tickets.

Speaking to Football League World, Blackburn Rovers fan pundit Simon Middlehurst has labelled the increase in ticket prices by the club as ‘ridiculous’, with more and more supporters being priced out of going to football matches.

Simon told FLW: “Yeah, I think it’s ridiculous.

“Football is becoming far too expensive for fans these days with increased ticket prices, shirt sales and shirt prices, it’s just becoming ridiculous.

“Blackburn have obviously struggled for home fans the last few years due to the Venky’s being involved and fans wanting to stay away, and I can see this increase in price is going to keep more fans away.

“It’s just becoming too expensive to go to football these days and how anyone can justify those prices is just ridiculous as well.”

A sport built for the working class, football is now becoming unaffordable as the cost of living continues to be so strenuous, with many fans now refusing to attend games and pay such extortionate amounts of money.

And it’ll only be harmful to Blackburn in particular, who over the years have struggled to fill Ewood Park and get the place bouncing.

With these increases, Ewood Park is at risk of becoming an empty and soulless football stadium, and the team could well struggle over the next few years with a lack of support from the terraces.
