Girondins de Bordeaux have been sold to Sparta Capital, but the club are not out of trouble. According to Sud-Ouest, only half of the funds meant to secure the budget had reached the escrow account by Friday’s CNOSF deadline.
The club was transferred by Gérard Lopez for one euro. Sparta Capital had gathered 10 million euros to secure the budget, but 5 million had been placed in escrow by the cut-off.
As of Saturday, 5 million euros had been paid by James Bord, a British entrepreneur who holds a stake in Cordoba in Spain’s second tier and owns Dunfermline in Scotland’s second tier. The report said there are three investors, including Felix Roemer, a German entrepreneur and Bord associate at Short Circuit Science.
The report said this delay was not expected to imperil the case before the CNOSF, the first payment and a signed letter of intent serving as guarantees that allowed the committee to wait beyond the deadline. On X, new president Dominique Delport replied "Fait !" to a supporter questioning the 10 million euros.
Excluded from the national leagues and provisionally placed in Régional 1, Bordeaux are seeking salvation on appeal thanks to the sale. The funds and new presidency could help avoid judicial liquidation, though a return to N1, formerly N2, as last season, is not guaranteed. The CNOSF hearing will be decisive, as failure to regain the fourth tier would render the agreement between Sparta Capital and the investors void.
