Sky Germany reports that Borussia Mönchengladbach are interested in two defenders from the second division of German football.
Following the sale of Rocco Reitz to RB Leipzig for €21m, Gladbach have money to play with, and they are already looking to improve their defensive options in the summer.
At left-back, Karlsruher SC defender David Herold is a target. The 23-year-old has a release clause in his contract, which is worth €3.5-4m, and with his contract expiring in 2027, this would be the final summer that KSC will be able to sell him. Herold has featured 26 times for the 2.Bundesliga side, providing five assists, with the club sitting eighth.
Eugen Polanski’s current options at left-back are Lukas Ullrich, and more recently, he has played midfielder Jens Castrop in the position too.
The other position is centre-back, where Gladbach lacks quality and depth, often using midfielder Philipp Sander as a makeshift defender.
Hertha Berlin defender Linus Gechter is a target for Rouven Schröder. The 22-year-old has decided to leave the Hauptstadt, and five to six clubs from the Bundesliga are interested, with talks having already taken place with some clubs.
With both Herold and Gechter, Gladbach face competition from Bundesliga rivals.
