According to ESPN, Botafogo have scheduled a meeting with Tite for late on Monday as they step up their search for a new head coach.

During the talks, the board plan to present the club’s sporting project, and Tite is among the leading candidates to take the role.

The first team is currently led by interim coach Rodrigo Bellão after Franclim Carvalho’s exit, and the hierarchy are moving to confirm a permanent appointment for the rest of the season.

Tite, 65, has been out of work since March, leaving Cruzeiro after four months despite winning the state title. Appointed in December 2025, he took charge of 17 games, recording 8 wins, 3 draws and 6 defeats.

His career includes spells with Grêmio, Atlético-MG, Palmeiras, Al Ain in the UAE, Internacional, Al Wahda in the UAE and Flamengo. He also coached Brazil at two World Cups, exiting in the quarter-finals both times.

Tite’s most successful period came at Corinthians, where he won the Campeonato Brasileiro twice, the Copa Libertadores, the Club World Cup and the Recopa Sudamericana.

Flamengo appointed Tite in October 2023 to replace Jorge Sampaoli, and he oversaw 68 matches with 41 wins, lifting the Campeonato Carioca. After a run of poor results, including a Libertadores exit to Peñarol of Uruguay, the club ended his tenure.
