Bournemouth Sporting Director Tiago Pinto has spoken about their move to sign Michele di Gregorio on loan from Juventus for the 2026/2027 season.

Since the end of last season, Luciano Spalletti was sure he did not need the goalkeeper in his squad and was always going to ask for a new man in goal.

Juve has now signed another goalkeeper to add to their squad in this window, and the men in black and white will be looking to ensure that he does well and stays in England or finds a new club, since they do not want him back in their team.

Di Gregorio is a top goalkeeper and has just struggled at a big club like Juve, so we expect him to play well in England and prove to be a better goalkeeper than his previous spell at Juve suggested.

The former Monza man has performed well in several phases during his time as the first choice at Juve and previously attracted interest from clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester City.

Bournemouth explain Di Gregorio move

Pinto has now spoken about signing him and said via Calciomercato:

“Why did we sign Di Gregorio? We wanted to give our coach (Marco Rose, ed.) the chance to choose between two strong goalkeepers. When you represent a club like Juventus, there are good times and bad times, totally different pressures. When the opportunity arose to sign him, we didn’t think twice.”

Di Gregorio gets fresh opportunity

The move gives Di Gregorio the chance to start a new chapter in England after his time at Juventus. Bournemouth believe his experience at a major club can benefit their squad, while competition between two strong goalkeepers should give their manager an important decision to make.

For Juventus, the loan allows them to move on from a goalkeeper who no longer featured prominently in their plans. The club will now hope Di Gregorio can perform well enough in England to attract further interest.
