Maxim De Cuyper has topped Brighton’s August 2026 player ratings after a flying start to his second season, thriving on the left with Kaoru Mitoma sidelined by May hamstring surgery. According to WeAreBrighton.com, the Belgian led their list as Albion won two of four and scored 11.

The only match Brighton failed to score in was the 0-0 draw at Tromso in the Conference League play-off first leg, the sole game De Cuyper did not start. Afterward, Fabian Hurzeler said some players react badly to artificial pitches.

De Cuyper’s 7.18 owed much to big moments. His shot off the post forced Victor Lindelof’s own goal, then he added the second in the 4-0 defeat of Aston Villa. He also delivered a goal and assist in the 4-0 win over Tromso, and his long throw led to Pascal Gross heading Brighton’s third at Stamford Bridge.

Jack Hinshelwood was second on 7.14 after two goals in two minutes against Villa and a 9.13 match rating, but a training injury now sidelines him for six weeks. Gross, third with 7.12, forced a Joao Pedro own goal and then powered in a header in the 4-3 loss at Chelsea.

Olivier Boscagli, fourth on 7.03, covered several roles, scored against Tromso and delivered set pieces. Malick Yalcouye, fifth with 6.92, impressed as a number ten, scoring at Chelsea and threading the pass for the Pedro own goal. Luka Vuskovic, 6.74, helped deliver three clean sheets and was a set-piece threat at 19.
