Fifteen nations have had the honor of being crowned African champions at least once in their history, while others have reached the final but never managed to claim the title.

While Zambia, Tunisia, Sudan, Senegal, South Africa, Ethiopia, Morocco, and Congo have each lifted the trophy once, seven other nations have repeated the feat.

The Pharaohs remain the undisputed kings of the competition, having hoisted the trophy seven times, including three consecutive victories between 2006 and 2010. They outshine Cameroon (5 titles) and Ghana (4 titles).

Both three-time champions, Nigeria and Côte d'Ivoire were the finalists of the 2023 edition, won by the Pharaohs.

Algeria (1990 and 2019) and DR Congo (1968, 1974) have each claimed the title twice.
