Chelsea are preparing to return to Bournemouth with a fresh bid for midfielder Alex Scott, according to journalist Miguel Delaney.

Chelsea are preparing for Enzo Fernandez to leave before the close of the transfer window and are eyeing the 23-year-old.

However, Chelsea have already been rebuffed three times in their bid to sign the England international.

A bid of £80 million-plus could make them reconsider, although a figure closer to £90m may ultimately be required.

Scott has emerged as a possible replacement for Fernandez, who is edging towards the exit door and would leave Chelsea needing to replenish their midfield.

Chelsea should steer clear of Scott

Chelsea should think very carefully before spending that kind of money on Scott. He is a talented midfielder, but he is nowhere near Fernandez’s level in terms of productivity.

The Argentine offers more goals, assists and attacking influence while also providing the physical presence and technical quality expected from a top-level Premier League midfielder.

Fernandez has also generally been more reliable for availability, something Chelsea should not overlook after spending heavily on a squad disrupted by injuries.

Scott, who is a ‘top-class footballer’ in his own right, has had his own fair share of injury problems during his time in the English top flight.

That makes replacing Fernandez with an £80m-£90m gamble particularly questionable.

If Fernandez leaves, they need a genuine upgrade or at least a player capable of producing at a similar level.

Scott has plenty of potential, but potential alone does not justify that sort of price tag.
