Australia stay proves short-lived as Stamford Bridge exit looms

Jorgensen was left out of Xabi Alonso’s squad for Chelsea’s pre-season friendly against Western Sydney Wanderers, and Standard Sport understands the 24-year-old has gone back to the UK as he edges towards a move to Chelsea’s BlueCo sister club.

Strasbourg have been in the market for a new goalkeeper after loanee Mike Penders returned to Chelsea this summer, while Jorgensen has made it clear that he wants regular minutes this season.

The Danish international made just 12 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea last season and underwent groin surgery in March, shortly after being brought into the side by then-manager Liam Rosenior.

Jorgensen travelled as part of the 28-man Chelsea squad to Australia and Asia, but has now returned to the UK as he looks to finalise the terms of his departure.

News of Jorgensen’s potential move to Strasbourg comes shortly after Standard Sport reported that the Ligue 1 side were not pursuing a move for Nordsjaelland midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi.

The goalkeeping situation at Chelsea remains open, with Alonso admitting that he does not have a first-choice ‘keeper and that there is competition for the No1 spot heading into the new season.

Jorgensen, though, does not appear to figure in Alonso’s plans and he now looks set to leave Chelsea after two seasons and 36 appearances in all competitions.

It is unclear whether Jorgensen’s exit will see Chelsea enter the market for another ‘keeper before the transfer window shuts.
