Corinthians dropped one place in the Brasileirão after a 2-1 home defeat to Chapecoense at Neo Química Arena, compounded by Vitória’s 1-0 win over Grêmio on Monday.
As reported by Meu Timao, had Corinthians won they would have reached 35 points and could have moved into 10th, overtaking São Paulo.
Instead they remain one point behind São Paulo and were overtaken by Vitória on number of wins. Red Bull Bragantino sit ninth on 35, with Atlético-MG, Coritiba and Cruzeiro filling the remaining 2027 Copa Sudamericana spots.
The gap to the Copa Libertadores places has grown, with Corinthians 11 points adrift of fifth-placed Bahia on 43. Fluminense have 45, Palmeiras 53 and Flamengo lead on 54.
In the lower half, Corinthians are on 32 points, level with Santos, and ahead on tiebreakers. Botafogo have 31, with Grêmio and Mirassol on 28. Vasco are 17th on 25, level with Internacional, with Remo on 23 and Chapecoense last on 17.
After the loss in Itaquera, attention shifts to Wednesday’s quarter-final first leg away to Estudiantes de La Plata in the Copa Libertadores, at Estadio Jorge Luis Hirschi, 21:30.
