Crystal Palace close to signing Timber from Marseille for about €20m | OneFootball

Crystal Palace are close to signing Marseille midfielder Timber as the English window neared its midnight deadline on Tuesday. According to L'Équipe, the move was on the verge of being finalised late in the evening.

Talks were revived on Tuesday afternoon and accelerated towards an agreement in the final minutes.

Timber, 25, joined Marseille in January and has been keen to leave. The club want to keep key players but allowed him to pursue a move.

Club officials consider the midfield well stocked, enabling a sale that fits the financial constraints in place following their DNCG hearing in June.

Reducing the wage bill is a central aim, and moving on a high earner was seen as crucial after they were unable to register any signings during the window. The deal would be worth around €20m, bonuses included.
