Chris Powell has only just been appointed as Luton Town's assistant manager, but could Rohl be looking to re-unite with him in Scotland?
Luton Town have seen former Premier League defender Chris Powell arrive as Jack Wilshere's assistant at Kenilworth Road, and any fears that an approach may be coming from Rangers for his services have been quashed.
The Hatters appointed their new management team earlier this week following their decision to part ways with Matt Bloomfield after less than a year in charge, with his move from Wycombe Wanderers at the start of 2025 not working out.
They have now taken a gamble on Wilshere, who has accepted his first full-time senior management role after a short period as caretaker boss of Norwich City last season in the Championship, and he's brought an experienced figure in the form of Powell in as his number two.
Powell - who was capped five times as a player for England in his on-pitch career between 2001 and 2002 - had only recently joined League Two promotion hopefuls Walsall on an interim basis in a coaching capacity to assist Mat Sadler, but he quickly moved on and jumped on the opportunity with Luton, but are another club set to come calling for the 56-year-old?
Between October 2023 and the end of July 2025, Powell was an assistant manager at Sheffield Wednesday alongside their current head coach Henrik Pedersen, with both assisting Danny Rohl in his job as manager at Hillsborough.
Powell though departed nearly three months ago when Rohl exited the club, and the highly-rated German has remained without a job since - that could change soon though, as he's on the shortlist to become the next manager of Scottish giants Rangers.
Naturally, there will be fears within Kenilworth Road that Rohl may come and swoop for Powell to be his right-hand man once more and attempt to split up a newly-formed partnership with Wilshere, but according to the Daily Record, an alternative figure is wanted instead.
The report claims that former Premier League, Rangers and Northern Ireland midfielder Steven Davis - who Rohl knows from his time as assistant to Ralph Hasenhuttl at Southampton between 2018 and 2019 - is being eyed up to become his second in command should he land the role at Ibrox.
That should quell the fears of the Luton hierarchy when it comes to Powell, although should Davis turn down the opportunity if it is presented to him, then it could be a case of Rohl looking to re-unite with the former Charlton Athletic manager once more after the job they did together in Sheffield.
Powell will have barely got stuck into life at Luton so far after becoming Wilshere's number two, and there will be a lot of eyes on that duo now, considering you'd expect them to be promoted from League One given the quality of their squad.
But would Powell drop the chance to work with Wilshere if the opportunity to re-unite with Rohl at a club who are plying their trade in European competition came about? It would be tough to turn down that's for sure, but thankfully for Luton, it looks as though the German has other ideas.
For now, Luton can carry on planning for Wilshere and Powell's first game as a duo together against Mansfield Town this coming weekend, with the reported knowledge that Rohl wants to bring Steven Davis to Ibrox if he gets the nod in Glasgow, but that doesn't mean it's over just yet.
