Despite a strong preseason: Eberl remains firm on Bayern’s potential departure candidate Boey | OneFootball

Sacha Boey has certainly made a case for staying with FC Bayern during preseason. The Frenchman also impressed in the 3-1 win over RB Leipzig. However, that doesn’t change Munich’s overall plans, as sporting director Max Eberl made clear after the game.

In fact, the situation regarding Sacha Boey has been clear for weeks. The right back is among the players who are allowed to leave FC Bayern this summer. However, his strong performances in preseason have recently raised the question of whether the 25-year-old might still be able to make a case for staying.

Against Leipzig, Boey came on early to replace the injured Konrad Laimer, giving him another opportunity to showcase his abilities.

However, this has not changed the fundamental assessment of his situation.

Eberl sees no place for Boey

“There’s no question that Sacha has qualities,” Eberl emphasized after the 3-1 victory. The key factor, however, is the competition for the right-back position.

“When I look at the roster, we have Stani and Konny at right back. So as a third right back, you can’t really do anyone justice,” explained the sporting director.

With Josip Stanisic and Konrad Laimer, FC Bayern already has two players filling that position. If Boey were to stay, he would normally be limited to a minor role.

Even Laimer’s injury apparently does nothing to change this assessment. The Austrian had to be substituted early in the match against Leipzig due to injury. However, Eberl does not want to base long-term squad planning on a short-term injury.

“Yes, injuries could change the situation, but keeping Sacha just because Konny is out for a week is the wrong move from both a financial and a sporting perspective,” the Bayern boss clarified.

Thus, the course of action remains clear: Boey is still free to leave FC Bayern if a suitable offer comes along. His impressive performances in preseason could at least help the Munich club find a suitable buyer by the end of the transfer window.
