Elye Wahi has been cleared to enter Canada after an initial hold-up over his paperwork, meaning the Ivory Coast striker can face Germany on Saturday at 22:00.

The Athletic reports that the Frankfurt forward, on loan at Nice, was placed in police custody on 29 May over alleged sports corruption and organised fraud. Canadian authorities had sought further information before granting entry.

Wahi is suspected of involvement in fixed betting linked to a yellow card he received on the final day of Ligue 1, against Metz in a 0-0 draw on 17 May.

His entry was approved after officials received a document from the Marseille prosecutor’s office confirming he is neither indicted nor being prosecuted.

He was arrested immediately after the play-off second leg against Saint-Étienne, a 4-1 win in which he scored twice, but he has not been charged as investigations in Marseille continue.

The probe concerns suspected fraud, organised corruption, handling of criminal proceeds and money laundering, and began after the league flagged suspicious bets on Nice v Metz.

Ivory Coast play their second World Cup match against Germany in Canada on Saturday.
