Everton cruise past Palace to begin new Premier League season | OneFootball

Everton began their Premier League campaign with a convincing 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, ending a run of four consecutive opening-day defeats.

Palace started brightly and could have taken an early lead when Jean-Philippe Mateta fired over from close range. Eddie Nketiah then went even closer, seeing his effort turned onto the post by Jordan Pickford, while Dean Henderson denied Iliman Ndiaye at the other end.

Mateta struck the woodwork again after finding himself through on goal, and Palace were made to pay for their missed opportunities shortly before half-time. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall collected Harrison Armstrong's pass before curling a superb effort into the far corner to put Everton ahead.

David Moyes' side doubled their advantage eight minutes after the restart. Ndiaye delivered an excellent cross into the six-yard box, where Thierno Barry rose highest to head past Henderson.

Palace struggled to find a way back into the contest, while Everton remained dangerous on the break. Pickford made a late save to deny Jørgen Strand Larsen as the hosts secured their first opening-day victory since 2021 and ended a seven-match winless run in the league.
