The La Liga title race is getting tighter, and FC Barcelona simply have no room for more mistakes. While they do have a game in hand, La Blaugrana are currently behind Real Madrid unless they manage to win today against Real Oviedo.
For that reason, this clash against Oviedo becomes a priority game for Hansi Flick’s side. Anything other than a win would be catastrophic for them, so the German coach will need to make sure that his team is ready for that.
After all, the Catalan giants will need to showcase the mentality of champions if they want to win La Liga this season. While they can be confident about their own quality, they should never underestimate the quality of the opponents in front of them.
Keeping that in mind, Real Oviedo’s league position should not be relevant when it comes to preparing for this clash. After all, Real Sociedad were not exactly flying in the league either, yet they managed to beat Barça, albeit thanks to some very questionable decisions from the match officials.
Now, learning from that defeat, Barcelona should be ready to give this match their all. Fortunately, after several away games, La Blaugrana are finally going to be playing again at the Spotify Camp Nou, and that should be a big boost by itself.
In terms of form, Barça have 12 wins and one loss across their last 13 games, and that showcases their incredible recent run. Across their last five games, they have scored 15 goals and conceded just 6 goals in return.
As for Real Oviedo, things have not looked nearly as promising. With three draws and two losses in their last five games, they will be looking to get a positive result here as well to turn their situation around.
In terms of their goals, they have scored just 4 goals in their last five games while having conceded 9 goals in return. They really would like to be doing better, considering that their poor form is why they are currently bottom of the table in La Liga.
Either way, Barcelona simply have to play their own game and do it right. They need all three points here, no matter what it takes, and considering that this game is in front of their own home supporters, they cannot afford to let down their fans either.
