FC Bayern Mourns the Passing of Former Assistant Coach Peter Hermann | OneFootball

Peter Hermann served as an assistant coach for FC Bayern for many years. He played a particularly significant role as the right-hand man to head coach Jupp Heynckes during the historic first “triple” victory in 2013. 

FC Bayern is now mourning Hermann, who lost his long battle with the neurological disease ALS at the age of 74. The news broke on Saturday evening, and the record-holding champions issued a press release themselves. 

Hermann was not only an important member of the FC Bayern staff but also stood on the sidelines for more than 1,000 matches during his career as an assistant coach.

Hermann celebrated numerous successes with FC Bayern

Bayern President Herbert Hainer stated: “Our deepest sympathies go out to Peter Hermann’s family, loved ones, and many colleagues.”

Hainer added: “He played under Dettmar Cramer, and later used his expertise and consistently down-to-earth manner to support legendary coaches such as Jupp Heynckes, Dragoslav Stepanovic, and Berti Vogts—soccer thrives not least because of personalities like Peter Hermann, who aren’t always in the spotlight but still ensure that everything always shines. The historic 2013 treble is also linked to his name.”

In total, Peter Hermann won one Champions League title, three league championships, two DFB Cups, and two Super Cups with FC Bayern.

He also worked for Fortuna Düsseldorf, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, FC Schalke 04, Borussia Dortmund, and the German national team, among others. He gained a wealth of experience over his long career. He remained active on the sidelines until 2022.

So it’s not just FC Bayern that is losing a figure who was fully committed to soccer with passion and dedication and who helped shape the success of the record-breaking champions, among others, behind the scenes.
