Sunderland face a significant summer decision on striker Eliezer Mayenda after fresh European interest emerged.

According to Foot Mercato, Stade Rennais are targeting the 21-year-old this summer as they look to reinforce their attack.

Mayenda’s future at the Stadium of Light is uncertain, and he is understood to want to leave in search of regular football after limited starts last season.

He is under contract until 2030, leaving Sunderland in a strong negotiating position, while interest from Rennes could offer a route back to French football.

Mayenda joined from Sochaux in 2023 and struck the equaliser in the Championship play-off final against Sheffield United at Wembley during the promotion push.

He then scored on his Premier League debut in the opening-day win over West Ham United, but his minutes reduced as the campaign progressed.

Any call will hinge on valuation, squad planning and attacking depth ahead of the new season. Given his age, contract and potential, Sunderland retain control, though the situation now bears watching.
