Robin Gosens lasted only 11 minutes of Fiorentina’s relegation showdown at Lecce, limping off with a new muscular injury.
The left-back pulled up early at the Stadio Via del Mare, grasping his left thigh at the back. According to Football Italia, coach Paolo Vanoli started him despite Thursday’s Conference League quarter-final against Crystal Palace, judging the risk necessary in a decisive match to avoid the drop into Serie B.
He immediately signalled he could not continue and youth-team prospect Luis Balbo came on in his place.
It has been a testing campaign for the 31-year-old Germany international, who has four goals and three assists in 31 Fiorentina appearances.
He previously spent two months out from late October 2025 with a left thigh strain, and the fact the same leg is involved could indicate a relapse.
Fiorentina travelled to Lecce without Moise Kean, Fabiano Parisi, Nicolò Fortini and Tariq Lamptey.
