Gabi Zanotti and Tamires hail Corinthians’ spirit in semi-final

Corinthians secured a spot in the final of the FIFA Women's Champions Cup after defeating Gotham FC 1-0 in a match held in London, during the tournament's semifinal. The goal that clinched the qualification was scored by Gabi Zanotti, who made history as the scorer of the club's first goal in an official competition organized by FIFA.

At 40 years old, the number 10 was decisive once again in the black-and-white jersey by capitalizing on an assist from Tamires. After the match, in an interview with FIFA, Gabi appreciated the moment with the club and recalled the journey to reach this unprecedented competition. “I joined Corinthians in 2018, I waited a long time for this moment. Today I was blessed, the ball came to me,” highlighted Gabi.

The forward also emphasized the collective performance of the Brabas against the American opponent, noting the natural challenges of the season's start and the tactical adaptation throughout the game.

“I wanted to highlight the group, the collective work we did today. We know it's the start of the season, that we wouldn't be able to press for 90 minutes. We changed our approach a bit, and collectively we did an extraordinary job today, our defense was very solid. Everyone giving their all, playing like Corinthians, with fire in their eyes, trying to close every space.”

The assist for the goal came from Tamires, who also commented on the importance of the team's experience in neutralizing Gotham's main weapons and made sure to praise her teammate.

“Our experience was very important because we knew they were very sharp on the sides, their game speed is very, very good, and we had to nullify those actions,” explained Tamires.

“She deserves it so much. For all the history she has here at Corinthians, for everything she has been building, for being a very disciplined athlete. Every day at work, right? The day-to-day shows why she still plays at such a high level, still does what she does, and is very decisive for Corinthians. I'm very happy for her and also very happy to have been able to assist her,” she added.

Even with the qualification secured, Gabi Zanotti emphasized that the group is already focusing on the tournament's final, highlighting the team's mentality.

“Our goal didn't stop here, this group has a very strong mentality and is already thinking ahead, about the final game. It's step by step. It's worth highlighting the collective work we did, even the girls who didn't play and were here cheering for 90, 100 minutes, “I'm very happy. The word is accomplished. But we still have one more game.”, stated Zanotti.

Corinthians will return to the field next Sunday, February 1st, at 3 PM (Brasília time) to compete in the final of the FIFA Women's Champions Cup against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in London.
