Graham Smyth says he would be nervous if Leeds United finish the window without another striker, with the club pushing to strengthen before Monday’s 7pm deadline.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds have five days left and have so far added Brighton and Hove Albion loanee Facundo Buonanotte, who came on in Monday’s draw at Premier League rivals Everton. Jack Harrison and Harry Gray have gone out to Fiorentina and Rotherham United, with Gray scoring in the Millers’ 2-1 home win against Northampton Town on Tuesday.

Leeds are targeting competition for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Jorgen Strand Larsen seen as the preferred option. An initial bid for the Norway international last week was rejected by a Premier League rival. Crystal Palace are reportedly interested, viewing him as a possible replacement for Jean Philippe Mateta, who is attracting interest from Nottingham Forest.

Smyth believes Leeds’ recent trajectory makes them an appealing destination. He pointed to one defeat in the last 10, upward momentum and tactical evolution under Daniel Farke for evidence that the side has improved.

He added that the club view Strand Larsen as a market opportunity and will not sign for the sake of it if a deal cannot be struck. That stance would leave him uneasy if Leeds exit the window without a backup nine. Nmecha might cover the role and Leeds might still have enough even if Calvert-Lewin is injured, but he would remain nervous.
