Stade Brestois have pivoted from seeking a back-up to installing Norwegian international Egil Selvik as first-choice, with Grégoire Coudert looking to depart a year before his deal ends, according to L'Équipe. Selvik will be their goalkeeper this season.
Replacing Marco Bizot has proved anything but straightforward. The Dutchman guarded Brest’s best years from 2021 to 2025, drove the stunning third-place finish in 2024 that led to a memorable Champions League campaign, and remains revered in the city.
Last season Radoslaw Majecki, on loan from Monaco, fell short early, so understudy Coudert stepped in and delivered a solid campaign. Goalkeeper coach Julien Lachuer said they intended to start Coudert on the back of that form, but two weeks ago sensed he was tempted by another project and might want to steer his career in a new direction.
With one year left, and at 27 after long spells on the bench, even outside the squad having begun as number four in 2021, Coudert sought greater sporting and financial assurances. Brest moved quickly to secure Selvik, 29, on loan with an obligation to buy from Watford in the English second tier.
Selvik has eight caps and left the World Cup as a back-up, his sole outing a 1-4 defeat to France. He started Sunday’s friendly at Nottingham Forest, a 0-2 loss, with the league opener to come at Le Mans on Saturday 22 August at 20:45.
The department is being overhauled. Number three Noah Jauny has joined Francs-Borains in the Belgian second tier, while 19-year-old Noé Poillion arrives from Metz as fourth choice. Brest expect two further additions in the position, with a clearer hierarchy in place.
