Grêmio are under financial pressure and have acknowledged the possibility of occasional delays to player wages, with vice-president of football Rafael Lima declining to guarantee that payments are fully up to date.
"At times, yes, we may go through some moments of delay, but they are temporary, specific and we make them up as soon as possible," said Lima on Wednesday, speaking to Globo.com.
The briefing came a day after Grêmio announced the end of Arthur's spell because of salary differences. The player sought R$ 2.5 million per month in a renewal, while the club offered the same R$ 1.5 million as his current contract, which runs until 30 June.
"Grêmio have made it clear we are not going to do anything reckless financially, we need to face reality with commitment. We need to restore the club's credibility in the national, financial and sporting spheres," he added.
In the first quarter, spending on salaries, charges, signing-on fees and image rights averaged a little over R$ 30 million per month. The club posted a R$ 124 million deficit across the first three months of the year, and its short-term liabilities for 2026 stand at R$ 516.4 million.
