Groen heads stoppage-time winner as Excelsior climb to sixth | OneFootball

Excelsior beat Sparta Rotterdam 2-1 at Stadion Woudestein to rise from 10th to sixth in the Eredivisie.

In the 24th minute, Aymen Sliti lashed in from outside the box after a corner to give the hosts the lead.

After the restart, Milan Zonneveld levelled (48.) from the centre of the area, converting Mitchell Van Bergen's pass.

Filip Bednarek kept Sparta Rotterdam in it, tipping over Alireza Jahanbakhsh's header (62.). Stijn van Gassel then saved from Alwande Roaldsøy late on (87.) as the game tightened.

With two minutes indicated, Excelsior's substitutes combined at a corner as Ilano Silva Timas headed across for Nesto Groen to nod in from close range in the second minute of stoppage time.

Excelsior registered 15 attempts, five on target, with 43.6% possession. Sparta Rotterdam had 56.4% of the ball and produced two shots on target from 10 attempts.

Sparta Rotterdam drop from eighth to 10th. Next, Excelsior visit Willem II, while Sparta Rotterdam host PEC Zwolle.
