FC Barcelona moved to the top of the La Liga table last night after overcoming a tough challenge from Real Sociedad with a 2-1 win. The three points put them ahead of Real Madrid, who had lost their previous league match to Atletico Madrid.

However, securing these three points was far from easy for Hansi Flick’s side, as they had to work hard and once again come from behind to claim the win.

Naturally, the German coach was pleased with the result, but as Mundo Deportivo reported, he also emphasized that Barça’s lead at the top could be short-lived. Speaking to the press after the game, Flick explained:

“It’s good, but being top of the table is temporary. It helps us because it puts pressure on our opponents, on Real Madrid, and those behind. We must defend this position.”

At the same time, Flick was adamant that his team fully deserved the victory:

“It was a difficult match, but we deserved the victory.”

There was also a positive moment with the return of Lamine Yamal, who made an instant impact by registering an assist with his very first involvement. Flick praised the youngster and highlighted his importance to the team:

“It’s splendid to have him back. He’s a player who presses in defense and contributes a lot in attack; it makes me happy… He’ll try to win it (the Ballon d’Or) next year, and besides, we have many players who can achieve it.”

The Barcelona boss also highlighted the effort his team is putting in despite a packed schedule:

“In less than 68 hours, we have the next match (Champions League, against PSG), and even so, everyone on the pitch gives their maximum, and I am very proud of them.”

Among those efforts, Flick reserved special praise for Pedri, stressing how he and Frenkie de Jong were crucial in midfield:

“He’s special, he’s a great player… We see that he keeps improving, becoming a leader, and growing on the pitch. He’s everywhere, he defends and manages the ball, he gives us control of the game, and he knows the position he must be in.”

“He and De Jong have organized the team very well. It’s clear they understand what they must do on the field, and when everyone knows their position, things can only get better.”

The German trainer also spoke highly of Dro, who made his official debut in this game:

“He’s a very talented player; he knows what to do in the final third. It’s good to have players like that.”

Lastly, the Barcelona head coach also gave some indications on how he will line up for the upcoming match against PSG:

“Olmo will start, and we’ll need our fans. Tomorrow (today) we’ll already start thinking about the match.”

There is no doubt that this match against PSG is going to be the toughest test for Barcelona in this early phase of the season, and hopefully, Hansi Flick will be able to lead his team to another victory to showcase their credentials as a truly top team in Europe.
