Leeds United youngster Harry Gray has bid farewell to Rotherham after six months of first-team football, as a return to Leeds beckons.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, his loan ended with the League One season.

The 17-year-old joined in January to gain senior EFL minutes, aware chances at Leeds would be limited during a Premier League survival fight. He struck twice in his first four outings, then started 20 League One matches and scored 3 goals.

A hamstring strain in March sent Gray back to Thorp Arch for treatment, sidelining him for around three weeks. He returned to South Yorkshire in early April.

By then, Matt Hamshaw, the head coach who signed him, had been sacked, but Gray continued to impress under Lee Clark. He scored in a potentially important 2-0 win over Leyton Orient, though relegation to League Two was confirmed last month.

He still registered an assist in the final-weekend 3-2 defeat at Wycombe Wanderers.

He marked the end of his spell with a short Instagram message: "Thank u everyone @rotherhamunited for my time there all the best for the future".

He kept close to boyhood club Leeds, seen in the away end for April’s 2-1 win at Old Trafford, and at Wembley for the FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea.

Gray now returns to West Yorkshire, with talks on next season to follow. With Leeds all but securing another Premier League season after Friday’s 3-1 win over Burnley, another loan could keep his minutes regular.
