Have Manchester City got a clear run to sign an electrifying young Dutch right-back?

Manchester City remain in the market for a right-back. Given that Matheus Nunes has cemented himself as an elite right-back in the Premier League, City can afford to sign a young right-back who can provide cover for Matheus Nunes while also developing to one day become City’s first-choice in the role. One player who fits that bill is Feyenoord’s impressive young right-back Givairo Read. Christian Falk has previously reported for CF Bayern Insider that Bayern Munich and Manchester City are both interested in signing Read this summer. Now Falk has reported for CF Bayern Insider that Bayern Munich has other priorities in the transfer market this summer. Perhaps City now has a clear run to sign Givairo Read this summer.

Bayern Munich have other priorities in the summer transfer market than signing Givairo Read.

Christian Falk has provided an update on Bayern Munich’s interest in Givairo Read. Falk reports that the Bundesliga giants’ top priority in the summer transfer window is closing a deal to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle. Furthermore, Givairo Read is a player that Bayern would like to sign, but they believe they have cover in the right-back position, Falk reports. Signing Read is a deal that Bayern would like to do, but it isn’t an urgent need, Falk adds.

Manchester City may have a clear run to sign Givairo Read if Bayern Munich’s focus lies elsewhere.

It has always seemed that Bayern Munich were the biggest competitors for Manchester City in the race to sign Givairo Read from Feyenoord. All of Christian Falk’s recent reports indicate this. Bayern remain interested in signing the explosive young right-back, but the impression is now that City may have a run at signing Givairo Read with Bayern’s focus lying on signing Anthony Gordon first.

It is easy to see why Manchester City and Bayern Munich are interested in signing Givairo Read. The 19-year-old is an electrifying young full-back who can play at left or right-back. Read is exceptional at getting forward, and his ability as an overlapping full-back is elite for such a young player. He also carries the ball extremely well, which is a must for a modern-day full-back. Givairo Read is strong in duels on both sides of the ball, and although his injury record isn’t the best, that should improve as he matures physically.

Feyenoord manager Robin van Persie has insisted that Givairo Read is ready to make the step up to a club of Manchester City’s stature. In quotes relayed by Sport Witness, the Feyenoord manager said: “Everyone knows what I think about Read. We have known each other since our youth days. As a person, I think he is a really great example of how you can always remain yourself, no matter what happens or how well you are performing.

He is still exactly the same boy as he was three years ago. You see some players change because of status or money, but that is absolutely not the case with Givi (Read). I think that is really great to see.

As a player, he is making huge strides and is simply a fantastic player. I certainly think he can make that step.

Final thoughts.

Bayern Munich and Manchester City reportedly remain interested in signing Givairo Read from Feyenoord this summer. Christian Falk’s new report does give the impression that City may now have an opportunity to make their move to sign Read with Bayern’s focus on concluding a deal to sign Anthony Gordon. Givairo Read is a player that could come into Pep Guardiola’s squad and learn the City way while providing cover for Matheus Nunes. Robin van Persie’s assessment on Read’s personality and ability shows why City may need to strike to sign Givairo Read if Bayern’s focus lies elsewhere.
