Jordan Henderson undergoes surgery and will remain with England squad at World Cup | OneFootball

Jordan Henderson has rejoined England at their World Cup base in Kansas City after surgery on a broken left arm. He will play no further part in the tournament but will remain in the United States to back team-mates ahead of Saturday’s quarter-final against Norway in Miami.

According to NY Times, the Brentford midfielder was hurt during celebrations after England’s 3-2 win over Mexico in the round of 16 at the Azteca Stadium on Sunday.

He left on a stretcher, received oxygen and was taken to hospital in Mexico City, then did not travel back to Kansas City with Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

Scans later showed an operation was required, and the procedure was performed on Wednesday at Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute.

The former Liverpool captain won his 90th cap when he came off the bench against Panama in the group stage, his only outing of this World Cup.

Tuchel has praised Henderson’s influence on the squad dynamic and regards him as one of England’s key leaders.
