Benfica’s midfield is expected to undergo significant changes this summer, with two departures under consideration. According to Glorioso 1904, Manu Silva and Enzo Barrenechea are not in plans for next season and could leave.
Manu Silva joined from Vitória in January 2025 after impressing in Minho. Persistent fitness issues curtailed his progress and he never secured a consistent role in the first team.
Barrenechea arrived in the summer of 2025 and initially featured under José Mourinho, but his influence has waned in recent months. The Argentine came after a spell at Valencia on loan from Aston Villa, and competition has since edged ahead of him.
Both players are tied to long-term deals, yet the board is open to exits if suitable offers come in. The plan is to reshape the midfield group and clear space in the squad.
That overhaul is linked to recruitment plans, with Issa Doumbia and Rodrigo Zalazar identified as priority targets to add fresh impetus in the middle next season.
