LaLiga EA Sports will stage a vintage-themed matchweek across Primera and Segunda on the weekend of 12 April, with retro-inspired kits and classic styling throughout.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the initiative taps into the appetite for nostalgia, celebrating club histories while trying to reach new audiences. It will take place on matchday 31 in the top flight and matchday 35 in the second tier.
Teams are set to wear shirts inspired by historic designs, while the ball, television graphics and referees' attire will also echo past eras. Expect scenes like Barcelona’s 2007-born generation in designs that predate them.
The plan has been approved by a wide majority of clubs and is slated to continue for at least two seasons. Real Madrid are the only club not to have joined the project, although it has not explicitly turned it down.
In this first edition, Barcelona, Rayo Vallecano and Getafe will not take the field in retro kits because of production issues. They will join promotional activities and intend to debut their versions next season.
Away from the pitch, clubs will unveil the collection on 19 March during Madrid Fashion Week, using a slogan that frames it as a range that never goes out of style.
All retro shirts will be on sale to supporters, with some clubs already running vintage lines, such as Barcelona. Estimated sales of 70,000 to 80,000 pieces could generate six to seven million euros. Approaches vary, from faithful replicas to modern tributes to classic details.
