Le Havre’s five key figures driving survival with zero spend

Le Havre are on course for a third successive Ligue one survival despite operating on a shoestring. They have not bought a player across the past five windows, a constraint Angers, Saturday’s opponents, also faced. The club leans on a tight five-man decision group.

According to L'Équipe, president Jean-Michel Roussier, sporting director Mathieu Bodmer, deputy DS and recruitment coordinator Mohamed El Kharraze, analysis and data lead Julien Momont, and coach Didier Digard have shaped this model, with Digard arriving in 2024.

Bodmer came in 2022 on condition El Kharraze and Momont followed, the trio sharing an office to speed decisions. With a vast network, he watches and travels widely and meets targets to talk football first, including lengthy talks with André Ayew.

El Kharraze, 54, previously served Le Havre from 2015 to 2020 and built today’s recruitment process after earlier coaching Bodmer at Évreux. Strong in the Paris region, he helped land Arouna Sanganté and Yassine Kechta and triggered moves for Daler Kouziaïev and Ayumu Seko.

Momont, a tactics and data specialist with media experience, is central. His database surfaces profiles despite budget limits, and he joins video calls with tailored clips and translations for players such as Sofiane Boufal.

Digard arrived on one July 2024, set out needs to Roussier and Bodmer, and pushed for only Junior Mwanga, Lucas Gourna-Douath and Sofiane Boufal. His pitch appealed to Romain Faivre, though he chose Auxerre. Roussier, 70, oversees finances and finalises deals before Blue Crow’s approval, owner since 27 June.
