LeBron of football? American fans tested on their knowledge of Les Bleus | OneFootball

American fans struggled to look beyond Kylian Mbappé when quizzed on Les Bleus a few hours before France’s round of 32 meeting with Sweden, this Tuesday at 23:00. According to L'Équipe, the quick test gauged how much they really know about the national side.

Participants were asked to name France players, recognise a handful of names and, for the more knowledgeable, identify the head coach.

Unsurprisingly, Mbappé was the first, and at times only, answer. Others mentioned with varying confidence included Ousmane Dembélé, Michael Olise, Désiré Doué, Rayan Cherki and Eduardo Camavinga.

Once beyond the Mbappé reflex, the uncertainty showed. One fan even likened Dembélé to LeBron James.

The coaching question proved trickier. Didier Deschamps was rarely identified, though there were a few exceptions.

Those interviewed did not disguise the gaps. They said football is growing in the United States, but their grasp of Les Bleus, and of the sport more broadly, remains uneven.
