Leeds run riot against Newcastle at Elland Road | OneFootball

Leeds United put on an excellent show at Elland Road as they comfortably beat Newcastle United 4-1 to move up to third in the Premier League.

The home side started brightly and looked the more dangerous team from the opening minutes. Jayden Bogle came close early on, forcing a good save from Lukas Hornicek, while Leeds continued to put pressure on the Newcastle defence.

Their breakthrough finally came in the 32nd minute. Ao Tanaka’s effort from outside the box took two deflections before looping into the corner, with Lewis Miley unfortunate to be credited with an own goal.

Leeds struck again just a few minutes later. James Justin sent a cross into the area and Bogle got the final touch with his head to make it 2-0. Newcastle were struggling to cope, and things got even worse just before the break when Dominic Calvert-Lewin found the net after getting past Sven Botman.

Newcastle tried to improve after half-time, but Leeds remained in control. Noah Okafor added a fourth shortly before the hour mark with a smart finish from the edge of the box.

There was a late consolation for Newcastle when substitute Bazoumana Touré scored in the 90th minute, but it was never going to change the outcome.

The victory sees Leeds rise to third, while Newcastle suffer their first defeat of the season.
