Leeds United are moving towards completing the departure of Isaac Schmidt after interest from FC Basel and Young Boys, with a switch to the latter in the works.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Schmidt is close to leaving two years after joining from FC St Gallen, signed as a full-back but unable to convince Daniel Farke.

He made 12 Championship substitute appearances, mostly late cameos further forward, totalling 71 minutes as Leeds won the title, his only starts coming in the FA Cup.

Last season he joined Werder Bremen on loan, playing 19 Bundesliga matches, six starts. He featured on both sides of defence and on either flank, but the loan was not made permanent.

He is due to make a permanent exit, following Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow after their end-of-contract moves to Arsenal and Manchester United respectively.

Goalkeeper Lucas Perri is not currently available for a move. Back for pre-season at Leeds Beckett and training at Thorp Arch, he is the only senior keeper to have played top-flight football last season. He has been linked with Torino, but Leeds are not in a position to loan him out, and he lost the No 1 spot last term after high-profile errors that Farke criticised.

Leeds remain in a holding pattern over Southampton’s Shea Charles and are interested in Sassuolo centre-back Tarik Muharemović. The Bosnian is seen as an ideal replacement for Pascal Struijk after his move to Brighton, and a club-record fee could be needed for the former Juventus man.
