Leicester City have lost their appeal against a six-point deduction, keeping the sanction in place and giving West Brom greater clarity in the relegation fight with five games left.

The club said in a statement that the focus now is on shaping the season through results, thanked supporters for their backing, and stressed the need to approach the remaining fixtures with intent.

Leicester were penalised by the English Football League in February for breaches of profit and sustainability rules across the three-year cycle to June 2024. An independent commission upheld the punishment on Wednesday. The Foxes occupy the final relegation place after a poor run since the sanction.

They were initially charged by the Premier League in May 2025 over the 2023/24 Championship season, which ended in promotion.

West Brom, unbeaten in six under James Morrison, are two places and four points above Leicester. The Foxes have won only one league match since a last-gasp victory over Albion on January 5, Ryan Mason’s final game in charge.

Gary Rowett took over in February and has one win in nine. Portsmouth sit between Albion and the drop zone, one point ahead of Leicester and three behind West Brom, and have a game in hand, a home meeting with second-placed Ipswich next Tuesday.
